Abstract

|
Present experiment was attempted in order to make clear the histological mechanism of male-sterile carrot. The results obtained were summarized as follows:
1. In male-sterile flower the tapetum hypertrophy proceeds noticeably from dyad stage of microspore mother cell.
2. Microspores separated from the tetrad of male-sterile flower aggregate in the centre of the anther locale and degenerate immediately.
3. In certain male-sterile individuals the degeneration of anther occurs even at premeiotic stage.
